In The Kitchen...Or At His Feet??

The Busyness Of Life...

Find a new place to for paint and furniture...register for school...look for a part-time job...drop off applications...make a dentist appointment...get your tires laundry...prepare for a girls night with our high school students from church...transpose and email music/chord sheets to the youth band for worship on sunday...lead a small group some grocery shopping...have dinner with your roommate and friends...spend a few moments with those you love and care about...and all on top of your full-time job. A look at a day in my life as of recently.

Do you ever find yourself becoming so overwhelmed with the curveballs that life throws at you? I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to that to some extent. Whether it's chaos that we create because we overcommit ourselves to too many different things...or job/career issues that never seem to cease...or relationships new or old that are constantly needing's a never ending cycle. It can be good things, bad things, routine things, it doesn't matter...all of them take time. All of them require thought, energy, planning, time and patience to be completed.

In the midst of all thats going on in this life...what am I doing in order to keep myself filled up? What is my escape? Am I giving myself a break? Am I allowing myself God moments? Peaceful moments. Relaxing moments. We all should ask ourselves this. How these moments take place will be different for everyone...but it's important that we set time aside to revive our minds, souls and spirits. Move from being task purpose oriented. What are our priorities?

Luke 10:38-42 says:

38. As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”
41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha was so busy taking care of the "tasks" around her that she was passing up the one thing that really matters in this life. The one thing that will be there when all else fades away. The one person who's words carry all power and truth. I NEVER want to be that person who is so consumed by the daily walk of this life...that I forget who it is that I'm even walking this life for. Yes, we are God's hands and feet here on this earth. Yes, we have things that we need to accomplish, and it will consume our time and cause us to be busy. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But when and if we try to do any of this without letting God lead us, keeping Him in the forefront and without being willing to stop, listen, and let His Spirit breathe life into us...that is when we will fail!!

When He is in the room, will you be in the kitchen...or will you be at his feet?? This song by Kari Jobe called "Sweep Me Away" has been my hearts cry for the past few weeks. Doesn't matter what chaos is going on around us, God is waiting for a moment to sweep us away where nothing else matters but us and Him. Those moments are the moments I long for each and every day!!
